Newborn Survives Fiery Christmas Eve Crash That Killed Two Adults, Police Say

HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ/Gray News) – A Christmas Eve crash in Halifax County, Virginia, claimed the lives of two adults, and a newborn baby was flown to the hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon on Chatham Road. Virginia State Police said the driver of a Jeep crossed into oncoming traffic, prompting the driver of a Ford Explorer to swerve in an attempt to avoid the collision. Despite this, the two vehicles crashed head-on.

A Good Samaritan and first responders quickly rescued three people from the Jeep, which had caught fire. The victims included two adults and a 1-month-old baby.

Police confirmed that the driver of the Jeep, 22-year-old Danyelle Hankins, and her passenger, 30-year-old DaShawn White, both died at the scene. The infant was flown to a nearby hospital, along with the driver of the Ford Explorer. Their conditions remain unknown at this time.

A GoFundMe page has been created to assist Hankins’ family with funeral expenses.
