Popular Baby Product Recalled Due to Choking Hazard Concerns

by Jessica

A recall has been issued for over 85,000 units of Melii Baby Silicone Spoons after concerns that they may pose a life-threatening choking hazard to infants. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall following reports that the spoons could break apart during use, potentially endangering babies.

The company behind the spoons has received two reports of the spoon tip breaking off during use. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far.

The brightly colored spoons, which come in designs featuring cats, dinosaurs, dogs, sharks, and unicorns, were manufactured in China. They were sold in three- and four-spoon packs, as well as in a five-piece feeding set. Each spoon is approximately six inches long and was marketed for babies learning to feed themselves.

The recall affects spoons with date codes 2024-01 for the three-pack and 2023-12 to 2024-05 for the four-pack, which are printed on the back of the utensils. The issue lies in the silicone material used for the spoons, which can crack or break during use. Even small fragments of silicone can pose a choking hazard to babies, creating a serious safety risk.
