Rising Awareness and Income Boost Organic Baby Food Market in India

by Jessica

The organic baby food market in India is experiencing significant growth, fueled by increased disposable incomes and greater awareness of food safety and nutrition, according to a recent report by GlobalData.

As parents become more focused on the quality of the food they provide for their children, many are willing to pay more for healthier, organic options. “Claims like ‘organic’ and ‘natural’ are becoming more important for Indian consumers,” said Mohammed Masiuddin Shajie, Lead Consumer Analyst at GlobalData.

A survey conducted as part of the report found that 79% of Indian consumers consider an organic label to be important, while 82% value natural claims on baby food products. “This interest in organic and natural claims is now extending to the baby food sector,” said Francis Gabriel Godad, Consumer Business Development Manager at GlobalData India. “Indian parents increasingly see these labels as indicators of higher quality.”

In response to this rising demand, both local and international brands are expanding their offerings. Indian startups such as Ormeal, Happa Foods, and Pristine Organics are providing organic baby food, while global companies like Danone and Sprout Organics are also introducing similar products.

As more parents become aware of the impact that ingredients can have on their babies’ development, the demand for natural, nutritious baby food options is expected to grow even further. “Claims such as ‘made with real fruit,’ ‘clean ingredients,’ ‘no preservatives,’ ‘non-GMO verified,’ and ‘paediatrician recommended’ will continue to gain traction,” Godad added.
