An eight-month-old baby girl, Jannah Abughazaleh, tragically died after suffering severe burns from an allegedly scalding bath, with her parents, Hussein Abughazaleh and Kristina Siedlecki, reportedly leaving her untreated for several days.
Jannah was found unresponsive and covered in serious burns. Her parents initially claimed the injuries were the result of a bath she had taken several days prior. However, during the investigation, both parents reportedly admitted to watching their child’s burns worsen over the course of several days without seeking medical help. Jannah eventually succumbed to her injuries, and authorities have arrested both parents on charges of murder.
This heartbreaking case follows a separate tragedy in Texas, where 22-year-old Yanira Prado faces capital murder charges after a newborn baby was found dead in her toilet. A medical examiner determined the baby was born alive but died after suffocating on amniotic fluid and other materials.
Prado, who denies any knowledge of her pregnancy, was arrested after an investigation. Authorities claim Prado “knowingly and willfully” drowned the infant, though she insists she was unaware of being pregnant and thought she was simply having a bowel movement when she gave birth. Prado was charged with capital murder, tampering with evidence, and an immigration violation, and is being held in the Ector County Jail on a $1 million bond.
On October 9, police responded to a call from Prado’s home and discovered the infant’s body. Authorities ordered an autopsy, which revealed the baby suffocated shortly after birth. Prado was arrested without incident on Friday. She reportedly told officers she did not know she was pregnant and thought she was experiencing a bowel movement when the baby was born. Prado also stated that she used nail clippers to cut the umbilical cord and felt lightheaded afterward.
In a disturbing twist, Prado texted someone in the house for help rather than immediately seeking medical assistance, and others in the home had questioned her about the lack of feminine hygiene products in the trash, suggesting they were unaware of her pregnancy.
