Nelly and Ashanti have exciting news to share: they’re expecting their second child together. Sources confirmed the couple’s joyful news to The Jasmine Brand on Wednesday. The announcement comes just months after they secretly married in December 2023.
Representatives for the couple have not yet commented on the report. Ashanti’s pregnancy follows the couple’s recent addition to the family, as they welcomed their first child together, son Kareem Kenkaide Hayne, on July 18.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ashanti shared the emotional moment she first saw her newborn. “I cried, it was just so emotional and spiritual at the same time. Having a vision of this moment for so long… it was such an electrifying feeling,” she said.
Ashanti also expressed her joy on Instagram, revealing that she had “been waiting to be a mom for a long time now.”
The couple, who have had a long history together, first met in 2003 at a Grammy Awards press conference. Over the years, they collaborated on several projects, including their 2008 hit “Body on Me” and their 2024 release, “This Lil’ Game We Play.”
After dating for a decade, they split in 2013 but reunited in 2023, rekindling their romance in April at a boxing match in Las Vegas. In September 2023, Nelly confirmed their relationship, admitting their reunion surprised both of them. “Sometimes being separate, you understand one another more,” he shared in an interview with Love & Hip Hop stars Rasheeda and Kirk Frost.
According to a marriage license obtained by Page Six, Nelly and Ashanti secretly wed on December 27, 2023, in St. Louis, Missouri, Nelly’s hometown.
