by Jessica

A mother in Thailand embarked on a 450-kilometre journey with her 8-month-old baby after a heated argument with her mother-in-law led to her being kicked out of the house.

The 30-year-old woman was spotted by local reporters on Saturday afternoon (November 9) while traveling on her motorbike in Prachin Buri. The reporters noticed her riding a red Honda Wave, which lacked a license plate. Her belongings were tied to the backseat, and her front basket was filled with plastic bags. Her baby, secured in a carrier, was sitting in front of her.

When asked where she was headed, the woman revealed she was on her way to Chonburi, about 150 kilometres away. She had already traveled over 300 kilometres from Chaiyaphum and had been on the road since 8 a.m. That afternoon, she had just under ฿500 (S$19) left in her pocket.

Despite her challenging situation, the woman declined any financial help from the reporters. She explained that she had left her home following a major argument with her mother-in-law.

According to local reports, the woman and her husband had been working together in Chonburi, leaving their baby in the care of her mother-in-law. However, the situation changed when her husband’s younger brother was involved in an accident that required brain surgery. The mother-in-law had to care for both the baby and her injured son, adding to the family’s stress.

To help alleviate the burden, the woman decided to quit her job and assist her mother-in-law with the additional responsibilities. However, the mother-in-law, overwhelmed by the situation, began to lash out.

When the woman shared her frustrations with her husband, he attempted to mediate. But during a phone call with her mother-in-law, tensions escalated, and the woman was told to leave if she was unhappy.

With no other choice, the woman packed up, took her baby, and left the house. She continued her journey, determined to reach her husband’s residence in Chonburi.
